Warts are caused by certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV). HPVs can cause anthracnose (cauliflower) spots on the genitals. These spots can increase in size and number.

Warts are sometimes difficult to treat. You may need many visits to the dermatologist. Treatments include chilling, cauterization, topical remedies, surgical removal and lasers.

Some types of HPV (mainly 16, 18) can cause cervical cancer in women. Women can be tested with Pap smear. However, in recent years there have been two vaccines that can prevent HPV infection that causes cervical cancer.
